A pilot was ejected from a fighter jet during a failed landing at Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station Fort Worth in Texas, multiple US outlets including NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported. The spectacular scene was filmed by a passerby not far from the runway.
The pilot of the plane, who attempted a vertical landing with his plane, an F-35, is seen being thrown out of his cockpit after failing his maneuver. His parachute deployed immediately, he set foot not far from the plane that stopped.
“We are aware of the crash of the F-35B on the shared runway at the Joint Naval Air Station Reserve Base in Fort Worth and understand that the pilot ejected successfully,” Lockheed Martin said in a statement.
“Security is our priority and we will follow the appropriate investigative protocol,” added the US aircraft manufacturer, which assembles the F-35B for the US military and shares a runway at the Texas military base.
