Charles III was officially proclaimed King of the United Kingdom this Saturday, in a ceremony held at St. James in London.
After the first proclamation, Carlos III makes a declaration, in which he begins by referring to the death of his “beloved mother, the queen”.
“The whole world stands in solidarity with me in the irreparable loss we have suffered,” he says.
“My mother was an example of lifelong love and selfless service. (…) My mother’s reign was unparalleled in its length, dedication and devotion. Even in mourning, we give thanks for such a faithful life. I am deeply aware of this great heritage, the duties and the heavy responsibilities of sovereignty that have now passed on to me,” he says.
The new British monarch, 73, succeeds his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died this Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, after 70 years of reign.
