The US Department of Defense office set up to track reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) has received “several hundred” new records, but so far there is no evidence of extraterrestrial life, a Pentagon source revealed Friday. .
This new ‘All Domains Anomaly Resolution’ (AARO) office was created in July and is responsible for not only tracking unidentified targets in the sky, but also underwater or in space.
This project was created after more than a year of attention to unidentified flying objects that military pilots observed but were sometimes afraid to report for fear of stigma.
In June 2021, the office of the director of national intelligence reported that between 2004 and 2021 there were 144 such encounters, 80 of which were detected by various sensors.
Since then, “there have been many more reports,” explained the director of the anomalies office, Sean Kirkpatrick, quantifying them at “several hundreds.”
An updated report from the director of national intelligence is expected by the end of the year, which will provide specific figures on new reports received since 2021, US officials said, quoted by the Associated Press (AP) agency.
This office was created not only to examine the question of the existence of extraterrestrial life, but also the security risk posed by so many encounters with unknown flying objects by military installations or military aircraft.
In May, the US Congress held its first hearing in more than half a century on this issue, with several members expressing concern that whether or not the objects are strange or potentially new, such as the unknown technology piloted by China, Russia or another potential. adversary, the unknown creates a security risk.
So far, “we haven’t seen anything, and it’s still too early, that would lead us to believe that any of the objects we’ve seen are of extraterrestrial origin,” said Ronald Moultrie, assistant secretary of defense for intelligence and security. .
The office is also working on ways to improve its ability to identify unknown objects, such as recalibrating sensors that can only focus on known adversary aircraft or drone signatures, Moultrie added.
One reason for the hundreds of additional reports that have come to this office may be due to disclosures made by the Department of Defense to break the stigma around reporting potential encounters.
In addition to unidentifiable objects, there are many new technologies such as future stealth bombers and stealth fighters, ‘drones’ and hypersonic missiles launched by the US or China, which could be claimed as UFOs.
Kirkpatrick also said that the new cabinet is coordinating with the Pentagon and the US intelligence community to get US technology firms to make it possible to get rid of these drones.
