Five people were shot to death at a condominium in suburban Toronto, Canada, on Sunday night, authorities said, who fired at the attacker.
York Regional Police Chief James MacSween said one of the officers shot and killed the suspect at a condominium in Vaughan, Ontario.
“Six dead, one suspected. The other five are victims,” MacSheen said.
A seventh person struck by the suspect is in hospital but is expected to survive, he added.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit, which deals with cases in which there are deaths or serious injuries within the police, is investigating the case, according to the Associated Press agency.
So far, police have not identified the suspect.
Mass shootings are rare in Canada, and Toronto has long prided itself on being one of the safest cities in the world.
