Terry Hall, lead singer of The Specials, dies

Specials frontman Terry Hall died Monday at the age of 63 after a sudden illness, the British ska band announced on Facebook.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death, after sudden illness, of Terry, our beautiful friend, brother, and one of the most brilliant singer-songwriters and lyricists this country has produced,” read a statement issued by the cluster. Formed in 1977 in Coventry.

The musician gained notoriety in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like Ghost Town, Gangsters and Too Much Too Young.

“Their music and performances encapsulated the very essence of life… the joy, the pain, the humor, the fight for justice, but most of all love,” the band added.

The Specials requested respect for the privacy of the musician’s family, without advancing the causes of death.
