The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will take place on Monday, September 19 at 11 a.m., the British royal family announced on Saturday. The day of the funeral services, which will take place at Westminster Abbey, will also be a national holiday.
On its official website, the royal family explains that the queen’s body will be in a burning chamber in Westminster for four days before the funeral, “to allow the public to pay their respects.”
The coffin containing the queen’s body is currently in a room at Balmoral Castle and will be transported by car to Edinburgh on Sunday.
It will remain in the Throne Room at the Palace of Holyroodhouse until Monday afternoon, when a procession will form to escort the coffin to St Peter’s Basilica. Giles, also in Edinburgh.
The king and members of the royal family will take part in the procession, and then attend a mass to receive the coffin, which will remain in the cathedral until the afternoon of the following day, Tuesday, September 13.
From here, the Royal Air Force will transport you to Norholt Air Force Base. Then there is the road transport to Buckigham Palace.
The next trip will take the coffin, on the afternoon of September 14, to the Palace of Westminster. The transport in procession by carriage of the Royal Troop of Artillery to Caballo del Rey will also be carried out.
There are days of burning cameras until the state funeral, on September 19. After the ceremony, the coffin goes to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, where Elizabeth II will be buried.
