Taliban ban women from college ‘until further notice’

The Taliban regime in Afghanistan prohibited this Tuesday, “until further notice”, the admission of women to public and private universities throughout the country, announced the local Ministry of Higher Education, quoted by the Afghan news agency Jaama Press.

In a brief statement, also broadcast by the official Tolo television channel, the Afghan ministry calls for the suspension of the admission of women to higher education institutions.

The Afghan Minister for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Mohamad Khalid Hanafi, also explained today that the reopening of educational centers, closed since the Taliban came to power, “depends to a large extent on the creation of an environment dignified cultural and religious”. “. .

The Taliban authorities have been criticized for the closure of educational centers and the exclusion of female students from education, in a broader framework of discriminatory measures against women, which distance them from work and end up imposing daily life on them.

Since August, the authorities have prevented higher education students from returning to classes, allowing only male students.

In February, the process of reopening the universities ended after the imposition of segregation by sex in the classrooms.
