The heroes of a nation. This Tuesday, the players of the Moroccan team, back in their land, received a welcome in the image of their feat in the World Cup.
Tens of thousands of Moroccans welcomed the first African team to reach a FIFA World Cup semi-final in Rabat. The Atlas Lions first paraded on a bus through the crowd before heading to the Royal Palace.
The sovereign Mohammed VI then received Romain Saïss, Sofiane Boufal, Hakim Ziyech and their teammates “in recognition of [leur] historic feat.” The king, accompanied by crown prince Moulay Hassan, decorated the president of the Moroccan Federation, the coach Walid Regragui and the players who were accompanied by his mothers, according to the MAP news agency.

“The reception by His Majesty the King of the players accompanied by their mothers is a tribute to these Moroccan women who have been able to instill in their children the values of patriotism, sacrifice and national belonging”, underlined the MAP.
During a ceremony broadcast on the Arryadia TV channel, the players presented themselves, one by one, dressed in a navy blue suit, in front of Mohammed VI. They then posed for a photo with representatives of the kingdom.
Finally, their mothers joined them to immortalize a moment that will remain engraved for a long time in the minds of an entire people.
