Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting in Beijing on Wednesday with former Russian President Dimitri Medvedev, in which he called for “moderation” and “dialogue” in the Ukraine conflict, the Xinhua news agency reported.
Dimitri Medvedev traveled to China at the invitation of the leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The president of the Asian country stressed that China “always maintained an objective and fair position” in relation to the war in Ukraine and “promoted peace talks”, while saying he hoped that both parties “resolve their common concerns in the field of safety”. through policies”.
Still regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the former Russian president pointed out that “it is very complex” and that his country is willing to “solve the problems it faces through peace negotiations.”
At the meeting, the Chinese president expressed his hope that the parties that govern the two powers -China and Russia- “carry out an in-depth exchange on governance experiences” and “learn from each other” about what building a party is. .
Likewise, the Chinese leader assured that relations between Moscow and Beijing “have withstood the test of international vicissitudes and have always developed in a healthy and stable manner.”
For his part, Medvedev, who is also vice president of the Russian Security Council, indicated that his party wants to “promote the cooperation of both countries in areas such as the economy, trade, energy or agriculture.”
At the meeting between the two, Xi Jinping asked Dimitri Medvedev to convey his “warm greetings and best wishes” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Starting today, Beijing and Moscow will hold joint naval exercises in the waters of the East China Sea, which will last until December 27.
The exercises, called “Naval Interaction” and which have been held annually since 2012, this time include missile launch and artillery firing practices, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, China has maintained an ambiguous position during which it has called for respect for the “territorial integrity of all countries”, including Ukraine, and attention to the “legitimate concerns of all countries”, referring to Russia. .
Beijing has repeatedly declared its opposition to sanctions against Moscow for “not having a basis in international law” and for “not solving the problems.”
