Brazilian actor Pedro Paulo Rangel died early Wednesday morning, according to information confirmed by his family to local media, although the cause of death has not been revealed.
The artist died at the age of 74 and had been hospitalized since November 30 at the Casa de Saúde São José, in the south of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, to treat lung problems.
The actor became known in Portugal for his participation in the telenovelas “Gabriela”, “O Cravo ea Rosa”, “Vale tudo”, “Pedra sobre Pedra” and “Belíssima”, among other productions.
Pedro Paulo Rangel also gave an outstanding performance in the play “O Sermão de Quarta Feira de Cinzas”, by Father António Vieira, who represented Brazil at the Almada Festival in 2012, when he performed two seasons in Lisbon and other Portuguese cities.
His debut in the Brazilian theater occurred in 1968, in the play “Roda Viva”, by Chico Buarque. In 1969 she made her debut on the TV Tupi television network. Two years later, in 1972, he made his debut on TV Globo in the telenovela “Bicho do Mato”.
His last role on a Brazilian television channel was in the series “Independencias”, in 2022, on TV Cultura. The Brazilian actor had returned to the stages of Rio de Janeiro last October to celebrate his 50-year career with a new season of the theatrical monologue “Ator eo Lobo” in which a compilation of texts by the Portuguese writer António Lobo Antunes stood out. .
The editing was based on the fusion of texts by Lobo Antunes and the actor himself in a set of prosaic scenes staged in a game of mirrors that reflected the theater and the actor’s real life.
