Before the meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Joe Biden, which will take place behind closed doors, the Ukrainian and American leaders met this Wednesday in the Oval Office of the White House.
“The Ukrainian people continue to inspire the world with their courage, commitment and determination for the entire world, and the American people have proudly stood behind them,” said Joe Biden.
In brief statements to journalists, the US head of state stressed that it was “an honor” to be by Zelensky’s side because “he is a great leader.”
Biden also promised that he would maintain financial, military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, in particular in support of air defense, referring to the delivery of Patriot missiles by the Americans, for the first time since the beginning of the conflict, announced shortly before of the Ukrainian leader lands in Washington.
The US government leader also warned that Russia is “trying to use winter as a weapon” in war.
In Zelensky’s case, he thanked Joe Biden, US congressmen and the “ordinary people” of the US. “It’s an honor to be here with you, I wanted to come here before, but it was a very difficult period. Coming means that We are in control of the situation and all thanks to your support,” he reiterated.
