This is the first time Volodymyr Zelensky has left Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion last February. The Ukrainian president chose to travel to the United States this Wednesday to meet with his American counterpart Joe Biden.
After a lengthy private meeting, the two leaders held a press conference at the White House. Volodymyr Zelensky wanted to send a message to his fellow Americans.
“We have the same values and the same understanding of the meaning of life,” he begins.
“A common victory against tyranny”
“I want peace, it is the most important thing and you understand it here and in all the countries of the world”, continues the Ukrainian president. “Like you, I have this wish that you can see your children grow up and get to know your children in turn,” he adds.
The Ukrainian president calls on Americans to “support each other.” “We are fighting for this common victory against tyranny,” he said.
“What I really want is for us to win together,” he says, before recovering: “And it’s not a wish, I’m sure.”
