For Zelensky, a “just peace” does not imply “any compromise” on the territorial integrity of Ukraine

From Washington, where he was making a historic visit on Wednesday, the Ukrainian president insisted that peace should not “imply any compromise in terms of the sovereignty, freedom and territorial integrity of (his) country.”

US President Joe Biden promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday in a historic visit to Washington that Ukrainians “will never stand alone” against Russia and that the US would help Kyiv “as long as it is needed.”

During this joint press conference, President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the announced delivery by the United States of a Patriot air defense system, the most sophisticated available to the US military.

“This fight is part of something much bigger”

“Putin continues to attack more and more civilian targets, but he will fail,” the Ukrainian president continued. However, he considered that the “just peace” evoked by the US president to put an end to this conflict “does not imply any compromise in terms of the sovereignty, freedom and territorial integrity of my country.”

Joe Biden also considered that Vladimir “Putin could not win this war”, and that therefore it is “President Zelensky who will decide how he wants this war to end.” The US president said he was “aware that the Ukraine fight is part of something much bigger.” And to add: “The American people know that if we don’t stand up to such blatant attacks on freedom, democracy, and fundamental principles like sovereignty and territorial integrity, the world will face much worse consequences.”
