Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that the Patriot missile defense system, which the United States will supply to Ukraine, will be critical to creating safe airspace for Ukrainians.
The deployment of the patriots, announced shortly before Zelensky’s arrival in Washington, “is a very important step in the creation of a safe airspace for Ukraine,” stressed the Ukrainian president, at the end of a press conference with his North American counterpart, after a bilateral meeting at the White House.
Zelensky stressed that this missile system, which the US will supply for the first time since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has lasted for more than 300 days, will help contain “infrastructure attacks.”
The Ukrainian ruler also said that he discussed with Biden what is necessary for Ukrainians to survive the winter, referring to “protecting people is a humanitarian necessity.”
Joe Biden stressed that the Patriot system will take a while to be operational, but assured that the necessary training will be provided.
The US head of state also stressed that Russia, with attacks on energy infrastructure, is “using winter as a weapon”, assuring that it is working with allies to support the necessary repairs in Ukraine in the energy sector.
“Just peace” does not imply compromises in territorial integrity
“For me, as president, a ‘just peace’ does not imply any concession in terms of the sovereignty, freedom and territorial integrity of my country,” said the head of state of Ukraine, during a press conference with his counterpart. American, Joe Biden, after a bilateral meeting at the White House.
