Two Italian journalists targeted by “deliberate” Russian fire in Kherson

Two Italian journalists claimed to have been the target of a deliberate attack by Russian troops in the Ukrainian city of Kherson (east) on Tuesday.

Journalists said their vehicle was “deliberately” targeted by Russian forces, but they managed to flee safely.

A projectile “damaged the car, we were trapped under fire before we could escape to safety, I lost some blood but the wound is light,” reporter Claudio Locatelli said in a video with colleague Niccolò Celesti.

“If I had opened the door, I would have lost a leg or worse,” said Locatelli.

“The car is well signposted, as is the transport of journalists. The attack on us, given the location and the dynamics, was deliberate,” continued the Italian journalist.

“The shots came from the bank across the Dnieper where the Russian army is stationed,” the reporter said.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24 has already led to the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced people and more than 7.8 million to European countries – according to the latest UN data. Nations. this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).

Currently, 17.7 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million need food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending arms to Ukraine and to impose on Russia political and economic sanctions.
