At least 11 people died from the storm that hits the United States. A homeless man could not resist the intense cold and the rest of the deaths occurred as a result of traffic accidents in the states of Kansas, Ohio and Kentucky. In Missouri, one person died after his trailer veered off an icy road and into a frozen stream.
The “dangerous winter storm,” as North American meteorology calls it, is affecting much of the United States, with millions of people without power or travel over Christmas.
More than 1.4 million Americans are currently without power in the country, according to the ‘PowerOutage.us’ website, which monitors the power grid, while flight cancellations already exceeded 4,500 on Friday, according to FlightAware.
Beatriz Oliveira, a Portuguese woman living in Colorado, explains to TSF that movement on the streets is much lower than normal.

About 200 million people, 60% of the country’s population, are in areas where severe winter storms are occurring or will occur, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
This great storm, “once a generation”, as the NWS defines these days, began to affect the center-west of the country but this Friday it intensifies and is already spreading to the east, both north and south.
Three regional airports and one international airport, in Michigan, are closed and several have stopped takeoff operations, according to data from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) ‘website’.
In Colorado, Beatriz Oliveira says that the situation is not that serious, but leaving home is still not an option

The transportation problems also affect train and bus companies, such as Greyhound, the largest of which has already warned that many routes in the Northeast or Midwest could be canceled or changed.
On its ‘site’, the National Meteorological Service warns from the outset of the extraordinary nature of this “immense” storm and announces that during the day heavy rains will affect a large part of the country, especially the east.
Thus, alert, among other rigors, about the powerful “arctic front” that sweeps the eastern third of the country, the heavy snowfall that will cover the Great Lakes region and the New England area and the “significant rains” that can also cross the northwest
US President Joe Biden appeared publicly on Thursday to urge Americans to take the storm “extremely seriously” and follow the recommendations of the authorities.
“This is not like a snow day when you were a kid,” Biden declared in the Oval Office of the White House after a meeting with federal officials.
“This is something serious,” warned the president of the United States.
