The deaths derived from a bus accident that occurred on Saturday in Cerdedo-Cotobade, in the province of Pontevedra, in Spain, rise to five.
According to the Spanish Civil Guard, a bus skidded and fell into the Lérez river, in Cerdedo-Cotobade, with nine people involved in the accident, eight passengers and the driver.
Two people were injured and two others remain missing.
The works were suspended at dawn due to the poor general conditions, that is, the high flow of the river, the intense current and that the water level inside the vehicle was already reaching the ceiling, local rescue services reported.
Around 9:30 am the search for the missing persons resumed.
During the morning, the rescue teams found the third victim lifeless on the bus, a woman, and at 12:00 noon they found the fourth victim in the river, near the accident site.
The professionals had already confirmed, on Saturday, the discovery of two other deceased people.
Subsequently, they found a fifth lifeless victim, in an area that was very difficult to access.
Work is currently continuing to find the rest of the occupants, that is, the other two people who are still missing.
Of the two people who were injured, one is the bus driver who was hospitalized at the Clinical Hospital of Santiago de Compostela.
According to the Civil Guard, the driver was tested for alcohol and drugs and it was negative.
Among the other injured is a woman who was transferred to the Montecelo Hospital in Pontevedra.
The accident occurred around 9:20 p.m. this Saturday, when a Monbus bus, on the regular line between Lugo and Vigo, fell into the river.
The president of the Junta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, pointed to the “very bad weather conditions” as one of the possible causes of the accident.
It was also revealed that, at this time, the bus is already empty, so the searches are focused on the surroundings.
The authorities will try to remove the bus in the next few hours.
