Russian air defense shot down a Ukrainian drone that was approaching an air base in the south of the country, and the remains of the unmanned device fatally struck three people on the ground, it was reported on Monday.
“A Ukrainian UAV was shot down at low altitude as it approached the Engels military airfield in the Saratov region,” the TASS news agency reported, citing the Russian Defense Ministry.
That airfield is located about 500 kilometers east of Ukraine.
The aircraft was shot down at 01:35 (22:35 on Sunday in Lisbon) by “the anti-aircraft defense means of the Russian Aerospace Forces” and “as a result of the fall of the remains of the ‘drone’, three Russian technicians who were at the airfield were fatally wounded”, add the Russian news agencies.
