Ten months after the start of the war, Ukraine fears an offensive on the border with Belarus

Kyiv strengthens its positions in the north of the country and fears the opening of a third front that could change the course of the war.

Is the war in Ukraine about to turn upside down? While winter could reshuffle the cards between Kyiv and Moscow, Belarus could play killjoy. During a press conference with his Belarusian counterpart in Minsk, Vladimir Putin announced an agreement to strengthen their cooperation in “all areas”, particularly in the defense sector.

Which raises fears of a joint operation in the coming weeks between Minsk and Moscow against kyiv in northern Ukraine.

“We discuss this every day… Every day we’re afraid they’ll come here again. If that happens, we’ll go back to hiding in our basements… What can we do about it? Another?” says Sonia, a resident of the Ivankiv region.

“We must always be ready”

Between mines and fortifications, the Ukrainian defense is forced to organize “We have established surveillance points on each side of this hill to control it completely,” Batia, a senior lieutenant in the Ukrainian army, explains to BFMTV.

In recent weeks, Kyiv has doubled its workforce in the region and fears the opening of a third front. Five kilometers from the border, a battalion shows its muscles and simulates an air and ground attack from Belarus. Proof that the threat is taken very seriously.

“We always have to be ready. That’s why we do tactical exercises and shooting exercises,” said Yaroslav, one of the Ukrainian army soldiers.

“If they decide to come here…it will end very tragically for them…because they will all die!” abounds Volodymyr, battalion commander.
