Eleven people were killed and 23 injured when a bus plunged off a cliff in eastern Bolivia on Friday, police said.
The accident, whose causes were not known at the moment, would have occurred early in the morning on a road that connects the regional capital Santa Cruz and the small rural town of Saipina, according to the first elements of the investigation.
“We have eleven dead and 23 injured” in this “traffic accident,” local police chief Oscar Medrano told the private Unitel television channel.
1,325 road deaths in 2021
Some of the injured were taken to the Saipina hospital, while others, in more serious condition, were taken to hospitals in Santa Cruz.
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), traffic accidents in Bolivia caused 1,325 deaths and 11,155 injuries in 2021.
