Italy: a tourist plane makes an emergency landing at more than 2000 m altitude in the Alps

A small passenger plane experienced an engine failure mid-flight over the Dolomites. The young 22-year-old pilot managed to land without too much difficulty.

A miraculous landing. A 22-year-old Italian girl managed this Wednesday to make an emergency landing of the tourist plane in which she was traveling with two passengers, at more than 2,000 meters of altitude in the Italian Alps, reports the Corriere del Veneto.

Mid-flight engine failure

Silvia de Bon had taken off with her brother and his girlfriend from Trento, in the northeast of the country, and was flying to Belluno, a little further east. But mid-flight, the plane encounters engine failure.

The young amateur pilot did not lose her cool, straightened the stick and managed to land around 4:25 p.m. on the slopes of Val di Fiemme, in the municipality of Predazzo, at 2,100 meters above sea level, in the Dolomites.

When they arrived, the three young men, all in their 20s, called the emergency number and managed to get out of the cabin. They then go to a nearby bivouac while waiting for air rescue.

The miraculous three are rushed to the hospital of Santa Chiara. The young pilot was hit by glass fragments and abrasions to his head and face during landing and must remain under observation overnight. His brother and his girlfriend were able to quickly return home.

“We all returned home unharmed,” rejoices Mattia, Silivia de Bon’s brother.

“A miracle”

The father of the young pilot says that his daughter, accustomed to this plane trip that she was not doing for the first time, told him that the plane had had problems since it started in Trento.

“At height he encountered other problems. She told me that the plane had descended in a nose-down attitude and that she got out of it applying the rescue maneuvers, ”adds her father.

The young woman also temporarily lost consciousness shortly after landing and “has no recollection of the moments before the explosion,” she explains. She concludes, “It’s a miracle she’s alive. I really hope she stops stealing.” Nothing is less certain, while the young woman is destined to become an airplane pilot.
