Russian strikes again this Saturday hit Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv, leaving at least one dead and several injured, while Moscow in the east claims to have regained control of a city in the Zaporijia region.
“According to initial reports, one person died. Several people, at least seven, were injured,” Kiev mayor Vitaly Klitschko told the Telegram social network.
AFP journalists heard at least 11 explosions in Kiev early Saturday morning.
Ukrainian authorities also reported destruction and fires in Mykolaiv in the south, where at least two people were injured, and in Khmelnytsky in the west, where four people were injured in Russian attacks.
On the Russian side, the Ministry of Defense announced this Saturday the capture of the town of Dorozhnianka, in the eastern Ukrainian region of Zaporijia.
According to a ministry representative, the Russian army continued its offensive towards Donetsk with the support of aviation and artillery, reporting dozens of casualties of Ukrainian troops and the destruction of war material.
After several military setbacks at the front, in a military offensive that began and continues on February 24, Russia has been opting since October for a tactic of bombing Ukrainian infrastructure, which regularly causes massive power cuts and running water.
Drones are often used in these attacks and this Saturday, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, ordered the government to create a commission for the development of drones and set a deadline of one and a half months for the presentation of the project.
Putin said the aim is “to prepare proposals for a state policy on the development, production, certification and operation of unmanned aircraft systems”.
The commission, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, has until February 15, according to the Kremlin, to approve a national project to develop these devices.
