Lula da Silva ends the night of the inauguration with the people with promises of “love and affection”

The new president of Brazil, Lula da Silva, finished the day of his inauguration with the population that had been waiting for him for hours and promised to take care of “the Brazilian people with love and care.”

Around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday (2:00 a.m. on Monday in Lisbon) Lula da Silva arrived with his wife, Janja da Silva, at the Festival of the Future, on the Esplanada dos Ministérios, the center of festivities in the capital of country. where, from early in the morning, dozens of artists took the stage and entertained the ‘red’ crowd of around 300,000 people.

“Lula, warrior of the Brazilian people”, was shouted in euphoria with the arrival on stage of the new Brazilian president.

With the most relaxed speech of the day, Lula, speaking with “his people”, affirmed that only he knows what happened during the time he was imprisoned. “Because of you I am here going up the ramp of the Planalto Palace”, he said, to the delight of the crowd.

Less conciliatory than in previous speeches in which he guaranteed that he wanted to unite the country and work for those who did not vote for him, Lula shot: “The people who ‘cursed’ me forget that our blood is red.”

“They know exactly what we stand for, that’s why they hated us,” he continued.

Lula da Silva then addressed the female public and assured that he will work so that women have “the right to earn the same salary when they exercise the same profession.”

The newly sworn-in Brazilian president also vowed that his mission would be to “take care of the Brazilian people with love and care,” guarantee the “right to eat and dine,” provide education, science and technology for all, and even “decent work.”

“I’m going to give Janja a kiss,” he said. And gave.

Then Janja arrived, the organizer of the Festival do Futuro and a true ‘rockstar’ first lady.

“Enjoy the party, joy has taken over her and she is not going to leave here anymore,” she said.

This is how the day ended, along with nearly 300,000 supporters from the north to the south of the country, who filled the Esplanada dos Ministérios in Brasilia with dance, joy and lots of music throughout the day.

Here, in this very place, early in the afternoon, when Lula da Silva began the parade -in the Rolls-Royce that has served as the Presidency of the Republic since 1952- towards Congress to be officially sworn in as President, the crowd began to cry with joy.

Lula da Silva took office today as the 39th President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, with a term that runs until December 31, 2026.

After passing through Congress, the new president of Brazil went to the Planalto Palace where he went up the ramp in front of Praça dos Três Poderes to speak before an audience of up to 40,000 people, the limit authorized by security.

Later, before this last act with the population, he went to the Itamaraty Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for a reception closed to the public with several guests from more than 65 foreign delegations, including heads of state, vice presidents, heads of diplomacy, special envoys and representatives of international organizations.

Present at the celebrations were the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, and the former Prime Minister and personal friend of Lula da Silva, José Sócrates.

Also the presidents of Angola, João Lourenço; from Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta; from Cape Verde, José Maria Neves; from Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and the executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), Zacarias da Costa, were also present.

Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party) is the first head of state to serve three terms in recent Brazilian history. A six-time candidate for the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, he was the first labor leader to reach the most important position in the country’s political leadership.
