At least four people were killed and three others seriously injured when two helicopters collided mid-air on an Australian beach on Monday, authorities said.
Queensland State Police Commissioner Gary Worrell told a news conference that six other people also suffered minor injuries.
The accident occurred around 2:00 p.m. (5:00 a.m. in Lisbon).
“Rescue teams and volunteers were quick to come to the rescue of some of the victims,” Worrell said, thanking those who helped after the crash.
Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
Initial investigation suggests that one of the helicopters was landing and the other was taking off when the collision occurred.
