Engineers were trying this Tuesday with the help of the Army to rescue a 10-year-old boy who fell four days ago into a 35-meter-deep hole at a bridge construction site in southern Vietnam.
Rescuers will try to unstick a reinforced concrete nozzle from a hole 35 meters underground and then recover the trapped boy, 10-year-old Thai Ly Hao Nam, who has stopped interacting and is unknown to be still alive.
“The boy has been trapped inside a vulture for four days and probably has multiple injuries,” said Doan Tan Buu, vice president of the Dong Thap (south) province people’s committee.
Nationwide Help
Thai Ly Hao Nam was apparently scavenging for scrap metal when he fell into a concrete culvert just 25 centimeters wide poured to build a new bridge in the southern province of Dong Thap, a rescue worker said.
“We tried to rescue the boy with the means available,” added Doan Tan Buu. “Then we had to ask for help at the national level and from the experts.”
According to media reports, rescuers attempted to drill into and soften the surrounding ground in an attempt to lift the pillar and remove the child.
On Monday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on federal rescuers to join the efforts of local authorities to rescue the boy.
