A New Year’s Eve shooting in Mobile, Alabama, United States, left at least one person dead and nine others injured, the city’s police chief Paul Prine announced Sunday.
Police received an emergency call, after which a device went to the scene where it found a dead person, as well as several injured people who were taken to nearby hospitals, television channel CNN reports.

Police confirm they are responding to reports of a multiple-victim shooting. Very few details have yet to be confirmed by authorities.

Local police have so far not provided any information about any arrests or the reason for the shooting, which took place at one of the city’s venues where concerts were planned to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
In New York, a man attacked police near Times Square with a knife, injuring three officers, who remain in hospital in stable condition.
The suspect, a 19-year-old man, approached a police officer and hit him on the head with the gun, then attacked the other two officers before one of the officers fired his service weapon, pinning him to the ground.
The Federal Police (FBI), the New York Police Department and the Joint Terrorism Force are investigating the incident, but have ruled out “any lingering threat”.
FBI Deputy Director Mike Driscoll said at a news conference that all indications are that this is an isolated incident.
