Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that Russia’s proposed truce is aimed at preventing Ukraine from advancing into the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.
“They want to use Christmas as an excuse to try, even temporarily, to stop the advance of our men in the Donbass and prevent us from bringing equipment, ammunition and mobilizing soldiers there,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in his daily address.
“What will they gain? Only additional losses.” The Ukrainian president added that the war “will only end when his soldiers leave or when we expel them.”
