Gold coins, diamonds, necklaces… A lost Nazi treasure sought in Holland

A treasure of considerable value is said to have been buried by the Nazis after a bombing raid in 1944.

Who wants to win the Nazi millions? In recent days, the Netherlands has declassified several documents dating from World War II, some of which have drawn particular attention. Among them, a mysterious map, drawn by hand, which could indicate the location, marked with a red cross, of a treasure hidden by the Nazis during the world war near Ommeren, a few tens of kilometers from Utrecht.

With BFMTV, Annet Waalkens, coordinator of the Dutch national archives, explains that the plan is accompanied by several documents that underline that the treasure would have been hidden after the bombing of a bank in 1944. Above all, a rather impressive detail of said treasure. is also on the list.

“Metal Detectors Everywhere”

“Selon les documents, il contient des bracelets, des montres, des brooches, des colliers, des pieces of silver, des pieces of gold, des pierres précieuses, des rubies, des diamonds, vraiment beaucoup de choses”, detaille-t -she. Property probably stolen from families persecuted by the Nazis.

It was enough for treasure hunters from all over the country to come to the village. Equipped with a metal detector and a shovel, Jan Henzen, who claims to have “studied the map well”, is one of them.

“I see that many others have done it too because I see people with metal detectors everywhere. I think he is buried here, and I am not the only one, because I have seen big holes in the ground. I thought about it all night, and I decided I’ll look for it too,” he explains.

Beware of the bombs

In fact, over several tens of meters, the holes, all symbols of fallen hope for treasure hunters, multiply. A phenomenon seen with humor but also with apprehension by the locals.

“I’ve already seen people from all over the Netherlands, but I think it will be hard to find. On the other hand, being the president of the foundation that owns this land, I’m also a bit scared knowing that people will start digging randomly.” I hope it doesn’t get out of hand”, explains Klaas Tammes, former mayor of Ommeren.

In addition to the topographical concerns these holes could create, the local municipality encourages researchers not to dig any further. The reason: Ommeren was not far from the front line and many bombs that have not yet exploded may still be buried underground.
