Biden condemns “political violence” on the second anniversary of the attack on the Capitol

Two years after the attack on the Capitol, President Joe Biden stressed this Saturday that “there is no place for political violence” in the United States and took the opportunity to decorate the police officers who confronted the many angry protesters that day.

The US Congress is experiencing new busy days, despite a different blockade, with the Republicans blocking the election of their leader in the House of Representatives, even with a majority won in the November midterm elections.

But Democrat Joe Biden used the event to be clear: “There is no place…in America for voter intimidation. None, ever, for political violence.”

“The United States is a country of law, not of chaos,” stressed the 80-year-old ruler, before greeting “a remarkable group of” US citizens, the police officers who stopped the crowd that was invading the Capitol, encouraged by the former president. Donald Trump, to prevent the certification of Biden’s electoral victory in the 2020 presidential election.

“History will remember their names,” the US president assured before awarding a total of 14 “Presidential Medals of Citizenship,” one of the United States’ highest civilian honors, including three posthumously.

Biden thanked members of the security forces, whose faces some have become familiar to Americans, seeing the stunning images of the Capitol being invaded or the incredible testimony before the parliamentary commission of inquiry that investigated the incident.

The head of the White House also decorated those elected or those responsible for electoral operations in various states, who resisted pressure and threats to try to force them to change the result of the vote, won by Joe Biden.

Biden also praised the “elegance and dignity” of the families of the three posthumously decorated officers.

The wife of police officer Brian Sicknick, who was assaulted during the attack on the Capitol and died a day later, today filed a lawsuit against the two men who pleaded guilty, but also against former President Donald Trump.

Sandra Garza’s defense requests a minimum of 10 million dollars (9.4 million euros) in compensation for each of the victims who pleaded guilty, noting that the agent’s death was a “direct and foreseeable consequence” of the Trump’s words in a speech to his supporters on January 6, 2021.
