Germany advises against non-essential travel to China

The German Government advised against non-essential trips to China this Saturday, after the wave of contamination by Covid-19 that is registered in that Asian country.

“We advise against non-essential trips to China. The reason is the peak of Covid infections and the overloaded health system,” the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in a post on its ‘Twitter’ social network account.

On Thursday, the German Ministry of Health had already announced that travelers from China will have to present a negative Covid-19 test to enter the country, as required by other countries concerned about the outbreak of cases in Chinese territory.

These measures come after the European Union “strongly” recommended that Member States require that all travelers from China have a negative Covid-19 test, following the unprecedented wave of SARS-CoV-2 infections that has registered in the Asian country since then. the authorities abandoned the so-called “Covid zero” policy.

Following this recommendation, several European countries, including Portugal, announced that they will require tests from travelers from China.

In the case of Portugal, from 00:00 this Saturday, random Covid-19 tests are carried out on travelers from China, starting on Sunday to require a test to be carried out up to 48 hours before boarding.

The authorities will also apply wastewater monitoring mechanisms at the Humberto Delgado International Airport, in Lisbon, and on planes coming from China, with a view to identifying the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, and the subsequent genomic sequencing.

At the end of December, China announced that, for the first time since March 2020, it will open its borders on January 8, which has led several countries to decide, in recent days, to require travelers from that country to make a test. negative to Covid-19 to enter their territories.

France, Spain, Japan and the United States, among other countries, had already decided in recent days to require tests from travelers from China, and even Morocco announced a ban on the entry of travelers from China.

Beijing found these measures unacceptable.
