President of Brazil decrees federal intervention in Brasilia

The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, today decreed federal intervention in the area of ​​Public Security in Brasilia and said that all those responsible for the invasions of the headquarters of the executive, legislative and judicial powers will be punished.

“We think that there was a lack of security and I want to say that all the people who did this will be found and punished,” said the Brazilian president in statements to the media, after reading a decree of intervention of the central power in Public Security of the Federal District (Brasilia ) until January 31.

Hundreds of supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro today invaded and vandalized the National Congress, the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), headquarters of the legislative, executive and judicial powers, in a demonstration calling for military intervention to overthrow President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a week after his inauguration.

The protesters advanced and broke the barriers installed by the police, with images of the invaders inside the green hall of Congress, inside and outside the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to be published on social networks.

Brazilian police used tear gas to unsuccessfully try to stop the protesters.
