Ukrainian soldiers will begin training on the Patriot missile system in the United States next week, US media CNN reports.
The training program will take place at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Fort Sill is one of the Army’s four basic training sites and home to the US Army Ordnance School, which has been training soldiers for more than a century. The place also houses the anti-aircraft school.
Training the Ukrainians on the missile system is expected to take “several months,” said Laura Cooper, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia.
Germany is also helping
The United States announced it would send the Patriot missile system, its flagship air defense device, to Ukraine in late December when Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky visited Washington and met with his US counterpart Joe Biden.
Germany, under international pressure to step up its military assistance to Ukraine, also pledged to provide a Patriot air defense battery.
