Turkey backs Zelensky peace plan, says ‘Russia is ready for talks’

The head of Turkish diplomacy, Mevlut Çavusoglu, announced on Tuesday that Ankara supports the peace plan proposed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, based on ten comprehensive security points and guarantees for the end of the conflict.

“Russia is making sure it is now ready for negotiations. Zelensky has proposed a ten-point peace plan. We, Turkey, support this plan and will continue our work,” Çavusoglu said in the course with his South African counterpart, Naledi Pandor.

Turkey’s foreign minister assured that Ankara is betting on dialogue to end a conflict that has been going on for almost 11 months. “We believe this war will end at the table of talks. The sooner the better,” he said.

Turkey has proven to be one of the main mediators in the war in Eastern Europe and, together with the United Nations, facilitated an agreement between Russia and Ukraine for the export of Ukrainian grains and Russian fertilizers from Black Sea ports.

In this regard, Çavusoglu insisted that “more grains and fertilizers need to go to developing countries, to the African continent.” This is reported by the official Turkish news agency Anatolia.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
