Lula regrets that Bolsonaro and his supporters do not recognize defeat in the elections

Brazilian President Lula da Silva lamented this Wednesday that his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro and the thousands of “Bolsonaristas” who promoted the attacks on the headquarters of the three powers on Sunday have not yet acknowledged defeat in October’s elections.

“Unfortunately, the president who left power on December 31 does not want to admit his defeat. Even today I have seen statements from him in which he still does not admit defeat,” said the head of state, referring to a video published by Bolsonaro. this Wednesday on his social networks, which he later deleted, with statements from a voter who questioned the reliability of the ballot boxes.

Speaking to a group of parliamentarians, the progressive leader said that the attacks on the seat of the congress, the presidency and the supreme court committed last Sunday by thousands of “Bolsonarista” supporters can only be attributed to groups with no sense of reality. .

“I can only assume that this is a group of puppets, a group of people with little sense of the ridiculous, because they have already appealed to the courts and the courts have not only confirmed the results of the polls, but also the party have condemned.” who contested the election should pay a heavy fine,” he said.

In this sense, Lula da Silva stated that he would not like to think that what happened on Sunday was an orchestrated attempt at a “coup”.

“I wouldn’t want to think that what happened was a coup. Maybe it was something minor, something promoted by a bunch of puppets who didn’t accept that the election is over and don’t want to accept that the electronic voting machine is possibly the most perfect election model in the world,” he added.

Likewise, he pointed out that the election results have only been questioned a few times in the history of the Brazilian Republican Republic, especially since the country adopted the electronic voting system and remembered calling its opponents to congratulate them, after the three presidential elections which he lost (1989, 1994 and 1998). ).

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the second round of the presidential election by less than two percentage points over the far-right leader, who questioned the reliability of Brazil’s electronic voting system during the election campaign.

Meeting with parliamentarians, Lula thanked the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies for approving in record time the decree appointing an intervener to be in charge of security in Brasilia after Sunday’s attacks, apparently made possible by the negligence of some authorities . .

“With this decree, we say that we must punish those who do not want to respect the law and the democratic order, which we had so much trouble with in 1989. [com a aprovação da Constituição após a ditadura militar]”, said.
