The exceptional guest of BFMTV on Thursday night, Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, admitted that fighting was still going on in the two cities of Bakhmout and Soledar, but that the situation was “extremely difficult”.
“In Soledar there is fighting in the village itself, while in Bakhmout the fighting is also heavy,” he said.
Volodymy Zelensky’s chief of staff then opted for a comparison with the Great War (1914-1918), very revealing for the French: “Today, Bakhmout has become the Verdun of the 21st century.”
Alert on “Russian propaganda”
Andriy Yermak took the opportunity to respond to recent statements by the Wagner group that claimed on Tuesday night that they had taken control of the town of Soledar.
“It is not true”, for who is usually considered the right arm of President Zelensky. He quipped: “All serious people already know how much Russian propaganda can be trusted.”
“Our heroes continue to hold office,” he said then.
The 51-year-old told our antenna that a meeting of the general staff was held on Thursday, under the leadership of Volodymyr Zelensky, and that “many important decisions” had been taken to postpone the Russian offensive in the east of the country.
Even if a peace deal were possible on Ukrainian terms – which would force Russian leaders in particular to stand trial before a court of war – Andriy Yermak still believes in military victory. “Ukraine must win this war,” he concluded.
