A 10-year-old boy in Mexico shot dead another 11-year-old boy because he was beating him in video games, several Mexican media reported on Wednesday. The attacker shot the victim with a pistol that he picked up at the family’s home in a miserable area of the state of Veracruz (southeast).
The two children had played on a video game console rented from a local business in the town of La Perla.
“I only ask for one thing, that you help me do justice, because my son died because of the parents of this child who killed my son,” the victim’s mother said at the funeral on Tuesday, quoted by the newspaper. Reformed.
The attacker’s parents are responsible because they left “a weapon on the table,” according to the mother, whom Reforma calls Leticia. The assailant and his family fled.
The gun legally purchased by the child’s mother.
It is “sad” that a child can have access to a weapon, commented the governor of the state of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García, considering that there were “undoubtedly responsibilities” to be established.
Experts cited by the Mexican media believe that the small aggressor is also a victim of violence in certain regions of a country that registered 30,968 homicides in 2022 (7.1% less in one year).
In the neighboring United States, a six-year-old boy was arrested on January 6 after shooting his teacher in a class at a Virginia (Eastern) school, seriously wounding her, according to police.
The Taurus 9mm caliber pistol had been legally purchased by the boy’s mother. Veracruz is one of the poorest states in Mexico and one of the most violent.
