A Qantas passenger plane, flying to Fiji, had to return to Sydney on Thursday due to a “potential mechanical problem”, a day after another company plane issued an emergency signal mid-flight.
The plane, a Boeing 738, landed safely at Sydney airport at 9:00 a.m. (10:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Lisbon), according to the Flight Radar website, which monitors flights around the world.
“Our flight from Sydney to Fiji was returned to Sydney as a precaution after the pilots received a fault indication of a possible mechanical problem,” a spokesperson for the Australian airline told Australian state television.
The incident occurred a day after another Qantas aircraft, a Boeing 737-838, which was connecting between Auckland, New Zealand, and Sydney, sent an emergency signal mid-flight due to the failure of one of the two engines. .
Following the alert, emergency services were called out of an abundance of caution, although the plane landed safely.
