Nebraska State Police arrested a 13-year-old Colorado driver Monday after a 100-mph chase along a highway, the AP news agency reported Thursday.
A soldier first saw a car traveling about 35 mph on Interstate 80 near the town of Kearney and tried to pull it over. But the driver sped up and fled.
The race then continued at speeds of more than 100 mph, until another state trooper threw ‘stop sticks’ (sticks you simply throw under a moving car to puncture its tires), the patrol said in a news release.
The passenger was 11 years old.
But the SUV left the highway and continued driving, albeit at a slower speed, until a military officer used a tactical maneuver to stop the vehicle, authorities said. The whole chase lasted about fifteen minutes.
The patrol then discovers a 13-year-old driver, accompanied by an 11-year-old boy. Troopers also said they found a firearm and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. Both were arrested.
