At least 70 people were injured in an earthquake in northwestern Iran, close to the border with Turkey, on Wednesday.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at 10:08 GMT, with a magnitude of 5.8 and a depth of 10 kilometers.
The Seismological Center of Tehran University recorded a magnitude 5.4 earthquake at a depth of 12 kilometers.
At least “70 people were injured” during the escape, state television reported, citing local officials.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in Khoy, a city in the province of West Azerbaijan and on the border with Turkey.
More than 300 homes in 15 cities were damaged, the television added.
Located in a region with several tectonic plates and traversed by several faults, Iran is an area of strong seismic activity.
