Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday there was “no other solution” than for the West to send heavy tanks to his country, while kyiv’s allies did not decide anything during a meeting in Ramstein, Germany.
“Yes, we will still have to fight for the supply of modern tanks, but every day it becomes more obvious that there is no other solution than to make a decision on tanks,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening speech via video.
“Our partners have a principled attitude: they will support Ukraine as much as is necessary for our victory,” he continued.
No agreement from the Allies
Meeting at the US military base in Ramstein in Germany, Ukraine’s Western allies failed to agree on the delivery of heavy tanks, particularly due to a lack of a green light from Germany.
kyiv’s expectations were high at this meeting of some fifty countries that sought to coordinate the military aid of the allies against Moscow, with the hope that Ukraine obtains the necessary weapons to launch a new offensive against Russian troops in its territory.
Volodymyr Zelensky, who on Thursday called on Westerners to “significantly” increase their deliveries, however, welcomed a meeting in Ramstein on Friday that will “strengthen our resilience.”
He cited “several hundred combat vehicles added to the” Ukrainian arsenal, “significant results regarding rocket and anti-aircraft systems.”
