Six additional confidential documents were found at the Biden family residence

US presidents and vice presidents are required to submit all their working papers to the National Archives. Biden previously admitted that other documents were found at his home.

The US justice system found six additional confidential documents this week at Joe Biden’s family residence, one more twist in a case that was already very embarrassing for the US president.

“The Department of Justice took possession of documents (…) relevant to its investigation, including six items consisting of” classified documents “, during a search on Friday at the house owned by the president in Wilmington, in the state of Delaware (east), Bob Bauer, his personal attorney, said in a press release published Saturday.

Joe Biden’s lawyer points out that the files in question correspond to two phases of the 80-year-old Democrat’s political life: on the one hand, his long career of more than 30 years as a senator from Delaware, and on the other, his role as vice president of Barack Obama, between 2009 and 2017.

Dropper Revelations

This new discovery adds to a series of small revelations in recent days, which put the White House in a very delicate position.

Joe Biden, through his lawyers, already admitted on January 9 that confidential documents had been discovered as early as November at a think tank in Washington, where he had an office. The Democratic president then admitted on January 12 that other confidential files had been found at his Wilmington home.

However, a 1978 law requires US presidents and vice presidents to send all their emails, letters and other working documents to the National Archives. The case is especially embarrassing for the US president, who plans to declare himself a candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

“Without regrets”

He, during a trip to California a few days ago, tried to minimize the clamor for the discovery of these documents, assuring that “he does not regret it.”

“Listen, we found some documents (…) that were kept in the wrong place, we immediately handed them over to the Archives and the Department of Justice,” the US president told reporters who questioned him on this issue.

His lawyers assure on the one hand that it is “without realizing” that the 46th president of the United States took these sensitive files, and on the other hand they stress that he fully cooperates with justice.

The White House’s goal is clear: to distinguish itself as much as possible from former President Donald Trump, who has already embarked on a new run for the White House. The billionaire is being investigated for bringing several boxes of official documents to his Florida residence.

If the two cases are not entirely comparable, the issue is dangerous for Joe Biden, who presents himself as a rigorous and rule-abiding president. In both the Donald Trump and Joe Biden cases, the Justice Department, anxious to avoid any accusations of bias, entrusted the investigation of the confidential documents to special prosecutors.
