German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on television late Sunday that Germany would allow Poland to send its Leopard-2 tanks to Ukraine. These German-made heavy tanks cannot be transferred to a third country without the approval of Berlin.
Germany “will not oppose” Poland’s desire to hand over Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, which is insistently demanding them, if Warsaw asks for permission, German diplomacy chief Annalena Baerbock said on Sunday.
“If they asked us the question, we would not oppose it,” said the minister from the Green party, which governs in coalition with Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats. “For the moment, the question has not been asked” by Poland, forced to make an official request to Berlin, said the minister, interviewed in Paris by the French channel LCI.
