A fire in a van involved in a traffic accident has killed 11 people, including two children, in Thailand’s central province of Nakhon Ratchasima, police said Monday.
The incident took place on a highway Saturday night when the vehicle, which was carrying 12 people from Amnat Charoen to Bangkok, left the road and hit the central divisions.
One young man escaped, but the others, trapped in the car, “died in the fire,” police colonel Yingyos Poldej told Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.
According to the latest data from the World Health Organization (WHO) for 2019, the death rate from traffic accidents in Thailand is twice that of Southeast Asia.
