At least three Iranian journalists were arrested this Monday in police actions against the protest movement in Iran following the death of young Masha Amini last September.
“At least three journalists, Melika Hashemi, Saideh Shafiei and Mehrnoush Zarei, have been arrested in the past 48 hours,” the Association of Journalists of Tehran denounced. by means of a statement.
According to the same document, the authorities did not explain the reasons that led to the arrest of the journalists. Two work for newspapers and the other for a news agency.
However, conservative publication Etemad reported that the three journalists had been transferred to Tehran’s Evine Prison.
According to the same publication, these arrests bring the number of journalists arrested since the start of the struggle against the regime to 79.
Last October, 300 Iranian journalists and photojournalists wrote an open letter criticizing the arrests of professional comrades, many of whom still have limited access to lawyers.
On September 16, Iranian of Kurdish origin Masha Amini, aged 22, died after being detained by police who accused her of failing to comply with the mandatory rules of Islamic dress imposed in the country since 1979.
The young woman’s death sparked a national outcry.
Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed during the protests, according to Tehran authorities.
