“We will not watch Ukraine bleed to death”: Poland will hand over its tanks even without German approval

The Polish prime minister assured that “Ukraine and Europe will win this war, with or without Germany” and that Berlin’s opinion was “secondary”.

This is a crucial question regarding the monitoring of the Ukrainian conflict. On Monday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said his country would seek Berlin’s agreement to deliver German-made Leopard tanks to Ukraine, emphasizing the “secondary” nature of this request.

In fact, if Berlin refuses, Warsaw intends to send several armored vehicles at all costs.

“Even if we don’t get their agreement, we will deliver our tanks to Ukraine as part of a small coalition, even if Germany is not part of it. We won’t watch Ukraine bleed to death, Ukraine and Europe will win this war.” , with or without Germany.

Pressure on Germany

Poland, which declares that it is ready to deliver 14 Leopards to Kyiv, indicates that it is in talks with about fifteen countries on this issue.

Germany is under increased pressure to hand over its Leopard tanks to Ukraine, which is insistently demanding them, after senior diplomat Annalena Baerbock said her country was ready to do so, despite Foreign Minister Olaf Scholz’s reluctance to comment. about the topic.

The Polish prime minister estimated that Germany had a total of “more than 350 Leopards in operation” and around 200 others “in stock”.

Germany is ready to allow Warsaw to hand over the tanks it has, according to Annalena Baerbock. “If we were asked the question, we would not oppose it,” the environment minister, who governs in coalition with Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats and liberals, said on Sunday.

“For the moment, the question has not been asked” by Poland, forced to make an official request to Berlin, said the minister, interviewed in Paris by the French channel LCI.

The final decision, however, rests with the Chancellor, who has so far refused to comment on the issue of these indirect deliveries, just as he has on the direct supply of leopards from German stocks.
