At the Don Uva psychiatric clinic in Foggia, in the Apulia region of southern Italy, a total of 15 people, including nurses and other health workers, have been arrested for sexually abusing and assaulting patients.
The investigations, which began last summer after some complaints, have revealed, thanks to the use of cameras, the continuous beatings, beatings and even sexual abuse of patients admitted to the center, the Italian military police now report.
The crimes attributed to the detainees, including nurses and assistants, are aggravated assault, kidnapping and sexual assault against at least 25 patients.
The victims are patients admitted to the long-term female psychiatric ward and are all between the ages of 40 and 60.
In addition to searches of the detainees’ homes, the clinic was also searched, but so far no investigation has been made into those responsible for the center.
Investigations began in June 2022, on suspicion that a professional had engaged in sexual intercourse with two patients, and after the cameras were placed, it was discovered that the patients were humiliated, insulted and beaten on a daily basis.
