The Russian Foreign Minister, Serguei Lavrov, begins a working visit to Angola on Wednesday, where he arrived on Tuesday night, to meet with his counterpart, Téte António, and the Angolan President, João Lourenço.
The head of Russian diplomacy, accompanied by his delegation, will meet in the morning with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, before proceeding to an audience with the Angolan head of state, João Lourenço.
According to the broadcast program, at 12:30 pm, the Russian minister visits the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Center, as well as the tomb of former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos, who died on July 8 last year.
Lavrov will soon follow him for a guided tour of the National Museum of Military History and will stop by the Russian Federation Embassy School before lunch.
The diplomat returns to Moscow on Thursday morning.
The foreign minister’s working visit comes at a time when Angola, after adopting a neutral position on the war in Ukraine, abstaining from voting on a United Nations resolution condemning the Russian invasion in March, joined in October to most of the countries that condemned the annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia.
Angola has been repositioning itself in recent months in terms of foreign policy, getting closer to the United States of America and the European Union, and moving away from Russia.
