An inmate serving a 130-year sentence for the 1991 murder, kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman in Hawaii was released Tuesday after new evidence was presented.
A judge ordered the immediate release of Albert Schweitzer, jailed for more than 20 years, after his lawyers presented new evidence arguing that he did not commit the crimes for which he was convicted.
Schweitzer had been sentenced in 2000 to 130 years in prison.
The case attracted national media attention and remained unsolved for years, putting intense pressure on the police to find the killer.
