TAP signs an agreement with unions for aircraft maintenance technicians

TAP has reached an agreement with Sitema and Sitava, unions representing the company’s aircraft maintenance technicians, according to an internal communication from the company’s executive committee that Lusa had access to.

In the communication, TAP’s Executive Committee believes that the agreement with the Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (Sitema) and the Union of Aviation and Airport Workers (Sitava) “strengthens and enables the sustainability of these specialized technicians in the company”at a time when these professionals register a “very high demand in the industry”.

According to the company, TAP lost 50 aircraft maintenance technicians (TMA) last year “very experienced and qualified, who decided to leave the company and opt for other entities and work proposals”says the Executive Committee.

“In this environment, it is very difficult to recruit TMAs with a level of training, certification and experience comparable to those leaving TAP. This includes some higher earnings for these employees”can be read in the note.

According to the airline’s executive committee, the agreement has been signed with Sitema and Sitava “is applied to all TMAs that work in the company and meet the requirements”.

“The Executive Committee of TAP confirms with this new agreement its full openness to dialogue with all trade unions representing the company’s employees, in the relentless search for the fundamental balance between the fulfillment of the obligations arising from the restructuring plan and the well-being and the satisfaction of all who work here”can still be read in the document.

The communication was signed by the members of TAP’s Executive Committee, including the Executive President (CEO), Christine Ourmières-Widener, and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Gonçalo Pires.

On Monday, the cabin crew decided to accept TAP’s proposal and call off the strike planned for the period between January 25 and 31.
