Spain will end the mandatory use of a mask on public transport in February, given the stable situation of Covid-19 in the country, the Spanish Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, announced this Thursday.
“We have a very stable epidemiological situation,” justified the minister in statements to journalists in Madrid.
Carolina Darias explained that the measure will be taken to the Council of Ministers on February 7, after the health agencies that have to be heard on this issue have been summoned.
The measure, if approved on February 7, should take effect the next day. The mask will no longer be mandatory on public transport, but it will have to continue to be used in health units and pharmacies, according to the minister.
Spain is one of the few European countries where the use of a mask on public transport is still mandatory and, in previous statements, the Government has said that it plans to maintain this rule until spring, after the period of most respiratory infections, which coincides with the coldest months.
However, in recent weeks, several experts have said that the mandatory mask in transport is no longer justified, given the stable situation of the Covid-19 that has been seen in recent months, even after the festivities of Christmas and New Years, which in previous years resulted in an increase. in infections.
